Aggregate Route-Based IP Switching

Aggregate Route-Based IP Switching
Abbreviated ARIS. A scheme from IBM used to establish switched paths through networks that act as virtual circuits, transmitting data packets through the network without the need to make routing decisions at every step. ARIS uses tagging techniques to add information to the data packets that can be used to guide the packets through the virtual circuits based on information already established by protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).
